Tibi Redefines Child Labor: High School Girls Sew Scarves for Kids with Cancer

Tibi scarves have been doing a lot of good for kids with cancer over the past year. Silk scarves made from fabric strike-offs (A.K.A. test fabric to check custom prints for accuracy #FashionSchool), and profits from their sale on Tibi.com, are being donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Care & Research. Now that the project has grown, Tibi founder/designer Amy Smilovic has enlisted a secret Sewciety of high schoolers to produce them after hours. It’s a whole new form of child labor, and it’s more than fair. It’s for kids, by kids, for good.

And while these future fashion heads are gaining real-world sewing experience with a major designer, they also got to meet Amy and are invited to the Tibi show at NY Fashion Week this coming September for Fall 2013. See the girls in action.
