Ingenue's dresses are one of the fashion desk's best kept secret (until now) - we meet the woman behind the fabulous frocks, Mena Ryan.
How was Ingenue London born?
Having worked as a buyer in retail for over 8 years, I saw a niche in the market for feminine wearable dresses, coupled with my love of colour and prints.
What's your advice to someone trying to make it as a designer?
It's important to always think about who is going to wear your label and if it'll suit their lifestyle. Fashion has evolved so much in the last couple of decades, we do love high fashion escapism, but for our real lives we want clothes that work for us.
What kind of girl wears your designs?
A woman who wants great fashion, and who embraces her femininity, but once she puts on her dress she doesn't want to be thinking about it again, she can just change her heels from work and wear it going out. She wears the dress, the dress doesn't wear her?€¦.
I love Etro! I have always loved its prints and style.
How would you describe your style?
Eclectic 70s with a modern twist. Summer is all about printed colourful all-in-ones and maxis with clean gold jewellery from my husband's label Lucas Jack. I am a practical urban dweller with my converse high tops, but love my Christian Louboutins for nights out.
What is your favourite shop in your home town?
In Dublin, I love Chica boutique in the Westbury Mall for its beautiful evening dresses and incredible range of jewellery. In my adopted city, London I love Caravan on Redchurch Street in Shoreditch for quirky home interiors.
What's the best piece of fashion advice your mum ever gave you?
Smile! You can wear anything if you smile and feel confident. I definitely have kept to that motto?€¦especially during my mini wearing 20's.
What is the one item in your wardrobe you could not imagine life without?
My Chanel 2.55. I just love, love, love it!!!!
What are your failsafe styling tips?
When in London, make sure you can walk in your shoes and you can never go wrong in wearing a dress?€¦
What are you most looking forward to in 2012?€¦
The excitement of the city with the upcoming Olympics and all the parties and visitors and hopefully a very sunny summer!
Ingenue London is a favourite on the GLAMOUR.com fashion desk because the dresses are ultra flattering, sexy but oh-so-smart and don't need ironing (phew!)
