David Downton, one of the world's leading fashion artists, has launched a new book, Masters of Fashion Illustration, so we can wistfully admire his creations further.
This tome is a lavish collection of Downton's favourite fashion artists, from little known names, to art legends such as David Hockney and Andy Warhol. Not just a celebration of the best talents in the field, we are also treated to an expert glimpse into the world of fashion illustration, with a 36-page portfolio of the artist's own work and an interview with journalist Tony Glenville.
Hailed by our sisters at Vogue as a 'master fashion illustrator', Downton himself has drawn some of the world's most beautiful women, from Cate Blanchett to Dita Von Teese. Since the artist was commissioned to illustrate Paris Couture in 1996, he has attended and reported front row from the shows for more than a decade. The book offers a unique preview of many illustrations, with work from artists such as ?‰rte, Carl Erickson, Ren?© Bouch?©, not seen since they were first published. Santa take note, we've firmly added Downton's book to our Christmas wish-list.
Masters of Fashion by David Downton and Laurence King Publishing, ??19.95, available at all good bookstores.
