Is Cond? Nast Bullying Photographers and Editors into Boycotting Carine Roitfeld’s New Mag?

Though Carine Roitfeld has no intentions for her upcoming magazine, CR Fashion Book, to compete with the Vogues of the world, Cond? Nast apparently still holds a grudge against the former Vogue Paris editrix.

Is Cond? Nast Bullying Photographers and Editors into Boycotting Carine Roitfelds New Mag?

According to the New York Post, Cond?’s International chairman Jonathan Newhouse has sent out friendly “reminders” to photographers like Mario Testino, Craig McDean, David Sims and Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott that they have exclusive contracts with the publishing giant.

In addition to Vogue, Cond? Nast is home to some of the fashion world’s top titles including Vanity Fair, Allure, W and Glamour.

Sources claim that even those photographers and editors not contractually-obligated to Cond? Nast have been discouraged from working with Roitfeld. “Everyone is buzzing about the Cond? roadblocks against Carine,” said one source. “People love Carine but are more frightened of the Cond? Nast machine.”

For her part, Carine’s just trying to do the damn thing. “Vogue is a very beautiful magazine, an institution, and I learned so much working there,” she told WWD  back in April. “You can’t put yourself into competition with a magazine like Vogue; you have to create something new, something different.”

While she’ll be working with her own loyal stable of friends in fashionable places, Roitfeld also has her heavily-kohled eye peeled for exciting, new talents who would no doubt jump at the chance to work with the icon — even at the expense of angering the all-mighty Cond? Nast. [NY Post]
