Today is Macaron Day in NYC! Started in Paris by Pierre Herm? and Relais Desserts, the day was brought to New York City by Francois Payard as a result of the increased popularity for what is known as “the new cupcake.” To celebrate the little confections we all love, several macaron specialists in the city are giving away free macarons.
Our favorite spot for macarons is Bosie Tea Parlor and will indulge your cravings with a selection of regular-sized macarons by Executive Pastry Chef Damien Herrgott. Not only is Herrgott one of the Dessert Professional Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America for 2012, but he was also the opening chef for Macaron Day founder Pierre Herm? at his first Paris shop. When you bite into one of Herrgott’s pastries, no other dessert will compare – it’s like heaven in your mouth. While you’re there, pair your macarons with one of Bosie Tea Parlor’s loose-leaf teas.
Other participants include Bisous Ciao MACARONS, Bouchon Bakery, Butterfield Markets, Francois Payard Bakery and La Maison du Chocolat. Ladur?e has opted out of the festivities this year. For a full list of participating bakeries, visit the Macaron Day NYC 2012 website.
If the freebie isn’t enough to satisfy your cravings, a portion of proceeds for all macaron purchases at each participating location will benefit the food rescue organization City Harvest.
Happy Macaron Day!!
