Situated at Madison and 78th street, the CuRious Candy Shop is Cynthia Rowley‘s latest sweet spot. I hit up this delicious nook on the Upper East to preview the designer’s latest collection and party in a fashionable Candyland.
A closer look at my earrings from Daphna Simon, addicted to these lately. The gold bear cub just makes me so happy!
I rarely travel beyond the buildings of Conde Nast or Lincoln Center through my New York fashionite adventures, often considering all things above the 70′s to be the dead zone, an area filled with those culturally dead of downtown and the vibrant, youthful scene it produces. A few years back, when we lived along 90th and Park, I’d find myself, very often, leaving my home on weekends, skipping Central Park, cabbing down, just to get a taste for the city’s grittier scene, tired of the Haitian nannies who owned the intersecting streets of the UES.
Although, I did, once, make a pilgrimage to Reed Krakoff for a birthday treat, it’s extremely rare for someone who lives steps from Union and Soho to even consider a trip past Barney’s. Unless of course, it’s for Cynthia. And candy. Nestled off of Madison on 78th Street, the entrance of the shop made me feel as if I were falling down a rabbit hole, a high-heeled Alice in Kurt Geiger‘s chasing towards a Fashionville Wonderland, models posing for shots for Cynthia’s lookbook along the way, to a place that Miss Rowley describes as “Totally Willy Wonka… Willy Wonka with a dark side.”
Inside, I chatted it up with CR, offering praise for her collection and ability to get models to eat copious amounts of sweets in the middle of fashion week. I wore head-to-almost-toe Cynthia Rowley, an embellished sweatshirt which I totally stole off the designers back, neoprene, printed shorts (yup, wearing shorts in winter again) [here], a runway mohawk clutch [only in store] and a pair of iridescent Geiger’s [here].
“Even I, a jaded New Yorker, went, ‘How’d they do that?”
Cynthia explained that it was all candy. Yum…
